Saturday 10/4/2003 RED Tomales Halibut Dive

(with pictures)

Twas a small but salty contingent that showed up for the fall classic club halibut dive. Jock had Mark Borden and Rich Gibson on his boat, while Paul was joined by Keri Cline and Steve Wheeler.

Mark shared emergency room stories between limited viz freedives. Rich did a drift and found conditions to be a tad on the less than perfect side, and Jock puttered.

Jock then motored us into the bay where we explored Pelican point, opposite from Marshall. Mark found conditions more free dive friendly, but no more fishy, and Rich burned a tank checking out sea pens and funky nudiabranchs in the silt.

We then went back out to visit with the rest of the crew. Paul and Kari had some excitement exploring the surf zone while looking for Steve.

Steve got a halibut on his first drift of his first halibut trip in amazingly poor conditions. This was the only halibut taken, so I think we have a new halibut fiend in the club!

Fun and adventure was had by all.
