Right now it is 12:28 AM. We are wrapping up yet another fun filled evening of packing, packing, packing. We had six large storage crates delivered last Sunday. They are about five Foot deep, by seven and a half feet wide by near to eight feet high. The idea is that you get to pack them up, and then they come with a big truck and a forklift, load 'em up and take 'em away. It is a good theory. We had them delivered on Sunday, and were able to completely fill the first one that day. As of Wednesday evening we had most of four of them packed. Tonight we finished one. So the score stands at three crates packed and locked, one crate almost packed (but you can always slip in a little something more...), the fifth crate has a solid base and then a lot of loose stuff on top, and the sixth crate has a few things in it. I believe that we will have enough space, but one never knows (and besides, how could I _not_ worry?). We have lots of closings tomorrow. Two houses sell, and we buy one. They come for the crates on Saturday morning, and we are required to be out of the house Monday at Eight AM. The biggest limit is, of course, the removal of the crates. After they are gone we are limited to what will fit in the cars... On the theme of pathetic whining over dealing with packing all of our stuff, a couple of weekends ago I went on a solo weekend getaway trip to south western Nebraska. I spent a lot of time along the Oregon trail, hiking, going to museums, and visiting scenic spots. I'm sure glad that I have six big shipping boxes, plus a minivan and an suv, to get me out to California. That whole covered wagon big seems totally overwhelming!! We plan to stay with friends for a few days, and then probably start driving Tuesday morning. I have a friend who is getting married in South Western Montana on Saturday, so we are going to visit Yellowstone and the like, go to the wedding, and then start driving again next Sunday. We should be in Sebastopol by Tuesday lunchtime (or before) and then the real fun of unpacking. I will be telecommuting from there to do my current job, and they expect me to be ready to work by the following Monday-> so we have about two weeks to get ourselves out there and unpacked enough so that I can work. And so that is our current life. |
