Written by Richard Gibson I have been invited to fill out a 'juror qualification form' for the United States District Court. I have done so, truthfully, and without malice, with one comment. Hi, I am happy to serve as a juror-but I will find for the defense in any case involving drugs, or the unjust DMCA, or as I see fit. I will not follow the instructions of a Judge over my conscience. The funny thing, is that this is true. I would be happy to serve as a juror in District Court, in Oakland. But I will not confict someone under our horrible 'mandatory sentencing' laws, and (of course!) I will not uphold the Digital Millenium Copyright Act! Free Dimitry, and all of that! So my statement feels very reasonable, and in fact, it seems like the only possible thing that I can say on the matter, and yet, I have butterflies in my stomach! And it took me almost a week of having the questionaire before I was able to express my feelings. This all seems like a lot of pain and angst over a silly form, and a potential few days of inconvenience. We will see. |
