To do/To Remember
- disturbing search requests-write a script to grep logs for terms...
('top search terms on google that lead to here')
http://searchrequests.weblogs.com/
-User log in to set a cookie as a session variable
Now setting cookies user/password.
user is plaintext, password is crypt'ed
-add a story screen is a cgi
-check to see if they are logged in. If not
display username/password boxes in addition to story stuff
or just display the login ...
-add an entry calls a cgi
Addentry.cgi
done-determine author
done-write story into appropriate file in author's directory
-Now writes to their directory, but without a check
-need to check password/verify that directory exists
-need to insert into entry table/file so showall doesn't need to
walk the whole dir path...
What do I want to know about a story in a central place?
-author
-title
-story filename
-section (theme/subject)
file section.txt
contains all section names?
...the site's flowchart and it's names evolved simultaneously...
Metaphors! I need metaphors. Sign up/login/write...bah! fucking
functional words. I need words, names, labels, that push and support
the theme of the site.
Is a 'library' where the writing is?
Do I browse? Read? Find? What is the language of a journal?
use that language. Make it up if I must, but get language that doesn't
apply as easily to a catalog of housewares as to a catalog of human
experiences.
-When I have comments-have a way of showing read versus unread comments.
-edit story needs to have a totally different save mechanism...
don't change the name, allow non-date names. Date names are just a
default, not a requirement. First rule of editing: don't break
what the user already has.
-Edit story needs to save the old one in a backup form, and then
write this one over...
-makesite.cgi needs to sub out %% tags in addentry...they are only used in
edit entry.
-create username/crypt password dbm-> partially done
-showstory...works for now, but ugly, ugly!
done-shtml issue for going live to slip net
-user login, to a cookie
-add story: option to upload file, option to append to existing
-journals.pm...all the constants, and library code, make file,
look up users, etc.
-show story-> I have a semi usable show story!
-add entry, put it into users directory: need to login, if not
logged in use username "noname" or maybe a creative 'no name'
name...like hollywood uses for directors who want their names
removed.
-/users/username/index.html? or 'showauthor.cgi?'
done -addauthor.cgi-> make author's directory.
-addentry-> need a login mechanism
-author.txt parsing...pull it into a hash of hashes?
-signup/login gif
-list of entries gif
-move images to somewhere
done -fix makesite.cgi so it can run as a cgi/rather than at the command line.
-default date to today...
-more dates...date written, time, date covered, etc
-where does this extra info live? in the entry in a n xml thing? in a
database/dbd file?
I am having trouble thinking through the whole software 'architecture'
part of the project, so screw it, write some code with what I do know, and
then go from there.

Grab screen shots of a color cycling mandelbrot or plasma clouds,
turn into animated gif...trippy whippy.
I am feeling a creative spark from my visit to Bill Keithler's house,
and my time with the psycheadelic art. And the analysis we did of the
1995 poster, versus the 'real deal.' The newer one was technically
'better' cleaner execution, etc, but it was missing its' soul.
I want to get my soul back.
I want to listen to my old records.
blue light snowplow flicker
raw blade scrapes on the pavement
Two am and I am trucking on this stuff.
Get to a night schedule...is that a good goal? deal with the whole
relationship issue...I can work during the day, and build/create late.
in between, in the evening, be a family man.
